ICM AG, the Swiss-based organizer of international recycling conferences, has announced that Shanghai will host three major recycling events in November 2025, focusing on battery, automotive, and electronics recycling. Scheduled for November 10-13, these events mark ICM’s much-anticipated return to the Asian market. All three events will take place at the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel in Shanghai, located about 25 miles from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

ICM is known for organizing industry-leading conferences in Europe each year, and this year’s return to Asia is a significant milestone for the recycling sector in the region. These three events, which will be held concurrently, are expected to create “a unique platform for industry leaders to network and exchange”. The events include the International Congress for Battery Recycling Asia 2025, the International Automotive Recycling Congress Asia 2025, and the International Electronics Recycling Congress Asia 2025.

According to ICM, the events are designed to provide a valuable opportunity for professionals across various recycling sectors to engage with one another. The simultaneous hosting of three congresses in one location will foster increased interaction among industry leaders and stakeholders. This format aims to encourage a more integrated approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities in battery, automotive, and electronics recycling.

The timing of these events is particularly critical. As global environmental concerns intensify, the need for effective recycling methods and circular economy solutions has never been more urgent. China’s ongoing commitment to green technology and sustainable development makes it an ideal venue for these discussions. With rapid growth in the electric vehicle (EV) and battery production sectors, these conferences will play a key role in shaping the future of global recycling practices.

ICM’s events are seen as a vital platform for promoting collaboration and innovation across the battery, automotive, and electronics recycling industries. As more governments and corporations are setting ambitious sustainability goals, the role of efficient recycling in reducing carbon emissions and conserving raw materials is becoming increasingly important.

The agendas for the events indicate a focus on key industry developments. At the International Congress for Battery Recycling, experts will discuss circular economy solutions and the latest advancements in battery recycling and sustainable resource management. The International Congress for Automotive Recycling will examine how the automotive industry is adopting circular economy principles and advancing sustainable practices. The International Congress for Electronics Recycling will address the complexities and rapid evolution of electronic waste management.

ICM’s decision to bring these influential events to Shanghai underscores the growing importance of the recycling industry in Asia, particularly in China. As one of the world’s largest producers and consumers of electronics and vehicles, the region is at the forefront of the global transition to a more sustainable and circular economy.
