EMSTEEL and Yellow Door Energy Collaborate on UAE’s Largest Industrial Solar PV Rooftop Project

March 28, 2025

According to a recent announcement on its website, EMSTEEL Group has entered into a strategic partnership with Yellow Door Energy, a leading provider of sustainable energy in the Middle East and Africa, to develop the largest industrial solar photovoltaic (PV) rooftop project in the United Arab Emirates. This partnership reinforces EMSTEEL’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing and aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic vision.

EMSTEEL revealed that the 31.5-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power project will include the installation of solar panels across 40 rooftops at EMSTEEL’s facilities in ICAD 1, Abu Dhabi. The project will integrate both rooftop and carport solar systems, using high-efficiency solar panels. Notably, bifacial panels will be deployed for the carports to optimize energy generation.

Upon completion, the project is anticipated to generate approximately 50 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually. This substantial energy production is expected to offset around 16,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions each year over the next 25 years, thereby significantly reducing EMSTEEL’s energy costs and carbon footprint.

This project is a key component of EMSTEEL’s decarbonization strategy and directly supports the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 initiative. This national goal seeks to drive economic progress while strengthening the UAE’s position as a leader in sustainable practices. By integrating on-site solar power, EMSTEEL aims to not only enhance operational efficiency but also contribute to the country’s broader environmental conservation efforts.

Saeed Ghumran Saeed Al Remeithi, Group CEO of EMSTEEL, stated, “Sustainability is at the core of EMSTEEL’s strategy, and advancing our decarbonization efforts is a key priority as we shape the future of sustainable manufacturing. This partnership with Yellow Door Energy marks an important step in implementing our recently published decarbonization strategy, by expanding the use of renewable energy across our operations.”

Jeremy Crane, Group CEO of Yellow Door Energy, also added, “With a total capacity of 31.5 MWp, this project demonstrates the potential for solar to power our primary industries in the UAE. As a UAE-founded company, Yellow Door Energy remains committed to helping businesses reduce energy costs and decarbonize their operations.”

The construction is slated to commence in 2025, with commissioning targeted for 2026, EMSTEEL noted. Under the agreement, Yellow Door Energy overseeing the whole development, ensuring effortless execution while removing the initial investment requirements for EMSTEEL. This model allows EMSTEEL to reap the benefits of clean energy without assuming operational risks, thereby enabling the company to focus on its core business while advancing its sustainability objectives.

As part of its overall decarbonization strategy, EMSTEEL aims to achieve a 40% reduction in absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in its Steel Business Unit and a 30% reduction in its Cement Business Unit by 2030, based on 2019 levels. The company’s ultimate goal is to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, reflecting its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable industrial practices.
